Residential & Light Commercial Excavation
Licensed & Insured Same-Day Available Upfront Pricing Responsible Disposal 5.0 Stars · 291+ Reviews

Excavation work goes beyond junk removal. Whether you're clearing a property, removing foundation debris, handling a stump or large rocks, or grading for landscaping, our licensed excavation team has the equipment and expertise. We operate bobcats, mini excavators, and dump trucks for everything from small dirt removal to larger site prep projects.

Common projects we handle: stump removal (including root systems), fill-dirt removal or placement, driveway demolition and debris haul-away, foundation cleanup after renovation, large rock and boulder removal, site grading and leveling, and storm debris clearing. Our licensed crew understands Connecticut regulations around earth-moving, disposal sites, and property grading requirements, and knows that Hartford County's rocky glacial till and 42-inch frost line often mean more digging than homeowners expect.

TJ's is licensed for demolition and excavation in Connecticut, two credentials that matter for professional, safe work. We bring the right equipment for the job, handle permits if needed, and dispose of materials at approved facilities. Quote on-site, and approved before we break ground.

Excavation work is priced based on project scope, site access, and material volume. We provide detailed on-site estimates with upfront pricing. Free on-site evaluation, and you approve the project cost before we begin.

Our licensed crew evaluates the project: soil type, access routes, equipment needed, and disposal requirements. We confirm scope and provide a detailed on-site estimate.

02
Permitting (If Needed)

For larger projects, we handle any required permits or inspections. Most residential excavation is permit-free, but we confirm with local authorities if needed.

03
Excavation & Removal

We bring in the right equipment (bobcat, mini excavator, dump trucks) and handle the work cleanly. Material is hauled to approved disposal or stockpile sites as planned.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between junk removal and excavation?

Junk removal handles furniture, appliances, and general debris. Excavation involves heavy earth-moving equipment and site work, digging, grading, rock removal, structural demolition. Both are licensed services we provide.

Do I need a permit for stump removal or grading?

Most residential stump removal and grading does not require a permit. However, we check local rules and confirm before starting. If a permit is needed, we handle the application.

How much does excavation cost?

Cost depends entirely on project scope: how much material needs moving, stump size and root depth, and site access difficulty. We quote on-site after seeing the actual conditions. Pricing is volume and labor-based. Free on-site estimate included.

Can you remove large rocks and boulders?

Yes. Small to medium rocks are handled regularly. Larger boulders require special equipment and extraction. We assess on-site and quote accordingly.

Do you handle environmental cleanup?

We handle general excavation and debris removal. For hazardous or contaminated soil, environmental specialists are required. We'll coordinate referrals if needed, but that's outside our scope.

What happens to the excavated dirt?

Excavated dirt is hauled to approved disposal sites or stockpiled on-site for later use as fill, depending on your preference. Rock and concrete go to certified recycling or disposal facilities. Clean fill can also be returned to grade the site. All materials are handled per Connecticut regulations and environmental standards.
